Build Your Gym Around Your Life

Build your gym around your life. Many people get caught up in the hustle, the grind. And yes, that’s part when you get started.

I’ve been in the hustle-grind mode where I got high blood pressure. The doctor wanted to put me on high blood pressure medicine. My sister passed away at 34 from complications of a brain aneurysm. It still gets me emotional though it’s been six years. She died at 34 and for me, it’s like the health side of this gym is my life. It saved me. I keep my blood pressure down, and my weight down.

The grind is good, and making money is good, but it’s not worth it at the end of the day if you can’t enjoy your life. Spend time with your kids. All those things are the cornerstone of what I do.

And when I consult with people, I ask them like what are your goals? What do you want?

And if they’re a hustle-grind type of person, I’m not the guy for them. For me, it’s like I want to train when I want to. I want to go somewhere if something pops up. Like, hey we’re going to go to Thailand, everyone’s in Brazil. It’s like, give me two weeks– I’m there.

So, the consulting business has been a blessing. At first, it was like, I’ll do this little side hustle to make a little extra cash. But then I get messages from these guys like, “I had ten students now, I got fifty students, my wife can stay home, and my life is so much better”. We’ve got something special in Combat Business.

If we didn’t, I wouldn’t be going as hard as I go for that. I honestly put in more hours with Combat Business than I do with Peak (my gym) right now.

But don’t get me wrong, when you first start opening a gym it’s going to be hustle and grind. If anybody asked me if they should open a gym, I tell them the first year or two is going to be super hard. It’s going to let you know if you really want to have a gym or not because it’s one of the hardest things to do.

To make that entrepreneurial leap where it’s like you don’t have health insurance. And if you do have health insurance, you pay a lot for it and it sucks. You don’t have benefits.

You got to do every job. When I first opened my gym, I did everything from unlocking the door. Every job in between teaching class, cleaning mats, cleaning bathrooms. Trying to figure out how to market, word of mouth. Do everything yourself until you locked the door at night and go home exhausted. Because the first two years that I ran Peak I still had a full-time job.

I was really worried about not being able to provide for my family because I had a really good job. It was a unique situation. I was a stockbroker making a nice six-figure income with great benefits in a great life. It was a lot to step away from.

You’re going to have to hustle and grind.

As you grow, I always tell people the biggest shortcut you can do is to find somebody who has the kind of school you want. And either hire them or offer to help them out with stuff. If you don’t have any money, offer to help them out for free just for you to know.

The first few years with Peak had me grinding and you know it was so long ago. There were yellow page ads. The big thing is, it’s a business you have to have a capital investment.

You have to keep getting better, keep improving.

It’s like you look at Facebook, they change their algorithm– the platform, it changes all the time. Instagram changed again it had Instagram Stories, IGTV and now there are reels.

Because if you stop innovating, if you stop doing something different, somebody’s going to come along and run you off the block. For me, there are so many gyms in my area I have to keep innovating every quarter. I have to do something new – I redo my floors, get new mats or new bags. I also get a new website or hired video guys. Those things help me get to the next step.

And so in Combat Business, it’s been amazing. Amy and I can dissect any business like we can come in and rip it apart. We can give you an action plan, do these steps you know and we’ll get you the goals.

We’ve had guys go from making five grand a month to 15 grand a month. Guys going from making ten to thirty in less than a year. I mean, that’s insane growth to 300% return.

And honestly, we don’t even charge enough for what we do but we have different level programs. We have starter programs that start off at 17 bucks a month. All the way up to our full-service packages at fifteen hundred bucks a month.

We’re also growing ourselves by bringing in better coaches and hiring a team for our ads department. We have mentors who are hiring other coaches. This brings our game up a notch.

If you really want us to help with your gym just go to combatbusinesssuccess.com. Or you can look at all the different programs on there but first of all go read our testimonials. Read the lives we’ve changed.

Conclusion

We can help people out. We’re not trying to bait and switch you into some scammy thing. Read our testimonials first. Read all of our testimonial messages from people who are our clients and see the impact we’re making.

Then look at our programs like this one might work, this one might work. And if you really want to get the full-blown package done, you can go on there and you can apply.

We’ll basically sit down with you and we’ll go through a consultation call. We’ll look at your gym, what your numbers are, and what you need to do. And then we’ll give you a plan and you can implement it or not it’s up to you.
