The Kickboxing Side of the Peak
Alright, another day at Peak performance. I’m going to teach a kickboxing class today.
So, it’s always fun to mix up a little bit and I have Jiu-Jitsu after that and some games so it’s going to be a good day.
Now, we’ve got kids’ class called on the other room and we’ve got a fitness kickboxing class going on so the moms can train. And also it’s a good beginner class to get started into.
Then we also have the beginner kickboxing class on Monday and Wednesday. So, a good mix of cross hook, right knee, left knee, the combinations look fun but they’re not that easy.
What’s different in our fitness kickboxing is, we do a lot of bag work and then we also do the conditioning and fitness. We do a lot of bagging with an actual technique that we actually use in our regular Muay Thai curriculum.
So, it’s a lot of fun but it’s super effective. The usual fitness classes are 40 to 45 minutes long. And then as you get into the more advanced regular or the regular kickboxing, it is 45 minutes to an hour. Then in advance and the fight team to be, an hour and a half. So, just as you get better the classes can get longer. You can train for a long time. But we want to make sure you’re comfortable in the beginning classes and the fitness classes without having to go through all that.
So, let me take you to the behind the scenes. We have this coach around here who has been here for a long time. He’s up at the gym and he’s a good part of the gym.
I have actually split the gym into two sides, it’s one of the ideas I got from my coach when I was in Thailand. During my training with him, he told me I should have a side for the Muay Thai. So, when you look at the gym you’ll see we’ve got bags everything for kickboxing on one side of the gym. Then the other side of the gym is all Jiu-Jitsu, high ceilings get hot, lots of space to train so it’s a lot of fun.
By the way, we’ve got it set up perfect so we can have kids’ class going on. And then mom and dad can be doing fitness and vice-versa. So, it’s super important for a lot of families. It makes it a good environment for everybody training.
In our kid’s program, we do a lot more than just teach them out to punch kick and grapple. Each month we go through our life skills program. Teaching the kids how to be better people, teamwork, and positive thinking so each month they have a focus. And then we also have them have a goal. So, if you finish all of the life skills in a row then you’ll get a free uniform just for completing the goals.
We want the kids to not only learn the skills but also learn how to set goals to complete all the skills too. So, it’s a big part of our program teaching the kids how to be better people and then also to crush goals in life later on.
So, we got our mats redone. We had an angle cut by flexi mats and then we had the custom epoxy floor done so she’s got the concrete. Now it’s some of the sexiest floors in martial arts but no shoes on these mats.
Now we finished working on the bags, and I come around this side of the mat and we do some bodyweight exercise. I mental mix it up with doing some resistance band training. Things like that but just keeping everybody moving. Keeping them going, no rest, well a little.
So, Cal teaches some of the kids’ classes for the beginner Jiu-Jitsu classes. He’s been around for a long time. He’s actually one of the first ten students I had at Peak and then he moved to Florida to go to medical school. He came back and then started treating back here so he trained with all my friends in Florida. He kept training little time so he’s a good training partner.
Conclusion
So, if you got some goals to crush. You want to get in the best shape of your life, have fun working out, Peak is the place to bid, you can’t beat the workouts. It’s the best.
