Take Responsibility: You can fix it!
Take Responsibility. Alright! Hey, it’s that time of the year. I’m glad you’re here.
So really, every day, week, month, quarter, year we planned out. We don’t need resolutions, everything should be the same. You always try to crush your goals, you try to be a little bit better and keep improving.
But what I want to talk to you about is something that I’ve taken from a few people that I consider mentors like Mitch Miller and a few others, is to take responsibility for things in your life.
90% of the time, if something goes wrong, we can tie it back to something that we did. We spend too much time blaming games, deflecting, not taking responsibility, and dragging things out and making them more stressful.
Take the Lead, Fix the Issue
Yes, there are going to be things that we don’t have control over like Cancer unless you’re smoking, who knows what it is. But focus on the majority, most things that go wrong in our lives, we have something to do with it.
So, the easiest way to do this is from Tim Grover’s book Relentless, about Michael Jordan, that the cleaner mentality is,
“What’s wrong?”
“What do we need?”
“Get out of my way and let me fix it.”
So, when something goes wrong just figure out what you need and go fix it. Really focus on those things and simplify.
Stay Ready, Don’t Panic
Take out the drama, the stress, blaming people, circling back, and having several meetings to figure out something that you could fix for 10 minutes.
Something happened to me this year, we held our biggest event in New Orleans, and I knew things were going to go wrong, I got stressed out.
So, I told myself,
“Everything is going to go wrong but we’re going to get the best of it”.
In my head, I knew that a lot of stuff was going to go wrong and I knew I had to plan to fix things, just let me triage and I’ll fix it.
And things went wrong but I never panicked, I never got stressed. “Alright, cool! What’s wrong? What do we need? Fix it.” We had all kinds of crazy that happened but I was able to fix every situation that came to me because I was ready for it.
So, always think about that. You’re going to have your daily goals, your weekly goals, monthly goals, your quarterly goals, your yearly goals.
You have to make adjustments, things are going to go wrong and you’re going to have to fix it. So, don’t worry about blaming other people, whose fault it was.
Just figure out what it is, what the problem is, what you need, and fix it. So, let’s get out there, crush 2023, and make it the best year of your life.
