The Broke Mindset

I really wish that I learned about this mindset a long time ago and I hope you pay attention to this blog post.

A Mental Trap: Money Beliefs Shaped in Childhood

When we’re born and growing up, most people I talk to in my life, my friends and I thought we had a similar childhood. Money doesn’t grow on trees, we can’t afford that, that’s what people do. We get wired at such a young age, to give up on our dreams, the things that we believe in, and why are we being held down because they don’t want us to be better than them?

The Unfortunate Cost of Success

Unfortunately, a lot of times, that is the case. You see it nowadays when you start doing better, all your friends stop coming around. People don’t want to talk to you as much anymore. They want to make fun of you, make little snug remarks but you’re trying to be successful and better yourself.

It’s because of resistance, it’s not their fault. We’re all wired the same way. You want everybody to do good but not better than us. Unfortunately, it’s a horrible minimalist kind of attitude and mentality that we have to break if we want to be more successful and be able to provide for our family, friends, and business.

Time for a Mindset Overhaul

Grow and become a better person. Stop thinking about those things and catch yourself saying, “Oh, I can’t afford that. Money doesn’t grow on trees“, I’ve caught myself and my kids, “Oh, can I have these shoes?“, and I’m like, “We can’t afford that. Money doesn’t grow on trees“.

You’re going to have to stop thinking of that. Why is that the case? Why can’t you go out and make more money? Why can’t you go out and do more things? Why can’t you get better at what you do and get a raise?

There are so many variables and we have so many hours in a day that can make extra money. It’s just a mindset and this big shift happened for me within these last couple of years. The last few months after being around people who are successful and don’t have these limiting beliefs. Most of them aren’t from America, unfortunately. I met them overseas, Canadians, and Europeans, from different walks of life.

But they’re all very similar to what they want, to be incredibly successful. And they don’t have these limiting beliefs. Money doesn’t grow on trees, things like that. They’re always thinking positively, like how can I get to the next level? What do I need to get to the next level?  And if they want something in life, they make it a goal, they write it down and they figure a way to get it.

LESSONS FROM THE SUCCESSFUL: OVERCOMING LIMITING BELIEFS

Instead of sitting there and complaining about it, bitching and moaning how you don’t have what the Joneses‘ have. Or if you really want what the Joneses‘ have, it shouldn’t be that way. It should be what you really want, what you need.

If there’s something you need, write it down, we talk about this a lot in other blog posts. Write down your goals, write down what you want, and find ways to get it. Your subconscious will find a way for you to get it. If you want it bad enough, you can accomplish so much more than you ever dreamed of.

And I wish I’ve known this twenty years ago. I feel like I’ve spent the last twenty years living in a protected mindset like I can’t do this and I can’t do that, it’s all bullshit. Get it on people, it keeps coming through over and over again. You know the average of 5 people who you spend most of your time with.

Breaking the Shackles: Your Journey to Greatness

So, keep getting around people who are doing better than you and are making a bigger impact in the world. Break out of your shell. Do more things. Talk to more people. Travel to places that you’ve never been to. Go to masterminds meetings, things like that.

Get out, find people who are more successful, and find out what they’re doing. When you talk to them, they’re just regular people. They’re just doing little extra things that we are not doing or we were not doing. And their mindset is so much stronger, so much sharper.

Read the book, Relentless, that one is huge, it’s a game-changer. Michael Jordan’s coach on that mindset, and the things that you need to do to be great at what you want. Because I promise you, if you want something bad enough, you write it down every day. Keep working on a plan to get it, you will get it.
